Two Style The Trends

Bonjour friends! So, for today's post you're getting two for the price of one. That's right, you're getting a little slice of both myself and my wee Megan Smellaby! I'm sure you all know of her very well, especially since I've raved about her on many occasions - with zero retraining orders to date miraculously, as she's got one of the best blogs in the biz and is taking the world by a storm. You may also have seen her in my insta stories but those are generally less fashun and more idiots in pyjamas and the less said about those the better. Her style's truly one of a kind and every time I'm on her blog or Instagram I'm inspired to step out of my comfort zone that little bit more. Oh and she's also a lovely little ray of sunshine which is an added bonus. I could never in a million years pull off what she does - I'm far too uncool - but then I see her wearing it and, every time without fail, am like, 'Shit that's fresh. The little stylish genius has done it again' and it pushes you to think maaaybe, just maybe I could pull of a little element of this outfit, or even a little of that 'I don't care what you think, I like it and I'm wearing it' attitude. I've seen so many people comment on her channels to say that she's inspired them to wear more colour, or to try a new trend or just branch out that little bit more from their usual style which is so incredibly lovely and honestly one of my favourite things about her style and blog.

Anyway, romancing over (or is it? It probably isn't), we'd spoken a lot about doing some joint posts recently and finally, finally got round to it last time we were down in London together. We were unsure of what to base the posts around, initially thinking we could maybe both style the same item in our own way, but then Megan suggested trends (or maybe I did? It's all a blur) and we decided to go with that. I wouldn't say I'm a particularly trendy person, I obviously do wear things that are 'in fashion' if you like but I've not particularly got my finger on the fashion pulse, preferring just to wear what I'm comfortable in. Megan, on the other hand, is entirely the opposite. She is AWN IT. She's ahead of the trends and is almost always wearing them before you see anyone else in them. She's a daring one that little bean, I told you. Anyway, she started rattling off the trends and we narrowed it down to two trends, one for each blog: the sparkle trend - which you're seeing in this very post - and the 70s trend, which you can read all about over on Megan's blog.

& Other Stories blazer (similar here) | Monki @ ASOS crop top | BDG crop flare jeans(they're the best) | TOPSHOP embellished platforms (old I'm afraid) | ASPINAL OF LONDON bag

As I started to look for an outfit for the sparkle trend I realised very, very rapidly that I am not a sparkly person. Which is quite a depressing admission isn't it? I love a good sparkle, especially in the form of phone cases and nail polish, but my wardrobe has a distinct lack of sparkle to it. So I went along to & Other Stories to have a little browse and came across this blazer. A subtle sparkle, very me. I absolutely love the fit - it's quite thin material so hangs ready nicely - and the shape and colour and, well, really just everything about it. I went back to rummage through my belongings - 'come on Amy, you must have a bit of sparkle in there' - and came across these platforms I'd brought with me that I bought years and years ago from Topshop. I kept the rest of the look simple to let the sparkle do its sparkling thing and then finished it off with this big mad statement earrings from H&M which have become one of my favourite things as of late. And there we have it, a very me outfit with an understated nod to the sparkle trend!

H&M embellished jacket | & Other Stories Jumper | Levis 'wedgie' jeans | Stella McCartney bag | Louboutin sequin boots (helllllo) | H&M eye earrings

Megan's outfit is, as expected, incredibly badass, I don't even know where to start with it. Ok, how about we start with THE LOUBOUTINS. That's right, louboutins. Pretty amazing, huh? They blow everything else sparkle related out of the water. They are... The Ultimate Sparkle. She paired them with a double denim look that included the denim jacket of dreams. Fur? Check. Embellishment? Check. Oh it's beautiful and oh so very Megan. Underneath we've got an unexpected and very sweet lilac jumper and shirt combo, all finished off with a b-e-a-u-tiful Stella star bag, making it the perfect statement Autumn outfit. Oh wait, but what's that dangling from her ears I hear you ask? Oh, it's just some incredibly cool, incredibly sparkly earrings in the form of these little eye numbers from H&M which I feel like a lot of you are going to lurrrrve.

And there we have it! I really, really hope you liked this post as it's something we've wanted to do for ages and would definitely like to know more in future. Mainly because I get to hold Megan's hand for professional reasons and she can't tell me off (she genuinely screamed at one point when I took it, not a high point for me). Anyway, let me know what you think and if you'd like to see more! And you can also have a little read of our take on the 70s trend over on Megan's blog here.
