A Stay At The Principal, Edinburgh

Myself and my lovely wee maw recently had a night's stay at the beautiful Principal hotel in Edinburgh so I wanted to share some snaps from our time there! We've stayed at The Principal before for a couple of nights and absolutely loved it, so when we were invited back to review The Suite Splendour package it was an absolute no brainer. We arrived at the hotel to check in around 3pm and were greeted by the loveliest of lovely staff; every time I've been there the staff have been nothing short of wonderful. The room wasn't quite ready yet so we went for a wee tea and coffee at their cafe Burr & Co, which you need to visit even if you're not staying at the hotel. It's on George Street - where the hotel is, duh Amy - so is really well located and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We enjoyed a hot drink outside in the sun and had a catch up (we both live at opposite ends of the country so I think we talked about 500 miles a minute) and by the time we'd finished the room was ready to rumble.

Included in the package is an overnight stay at one of the townhouse suites, a bottle of champagne on arrival, freshly cut flowers, a three course dinner and bottle of wine in the hotel's Printing Press Bar & Kitchen as well as a full Scottish breakfast so, as you can imagine, we were excited before we'd even seen the room. Disappoint the suite did not; it's an incredible size with both a lounge area and bedroom and is decorated quite traditionally without being too in-your-face Scottish. We were greeted with a beautiful little hamper filled with tasty goodies so we cracked open the champagne and sat down to enjoy some chocolates and another big catch-up and, before we knew it, it was time to head down for dinner.

The Printing Press restaurant is beautifully decorated - think low-lighting and huge chandeliers - and the menu is so, so good. They staff were really helpful when it came to letting me know which options were gluten free and which could be made gluten free which is always a plus. Make sure and get yourself a cocktail - or three - when you're there as they're Delicious with a capital D.

After that we went straight back up to the room to get as much use out of it as we could and sat and talked the night away before falling into a slumber in the lovely marshmallow bed. Breakfast is held in the same room as dinner so we headed down the next morning and were greeted with the beautiful sight of rows and rows of food. In the end I opted for poached eggs on toast with smashed arrrrvocado and did not regret it one bit. And then, sadly, it was time to check out and we had to be dragged kicking and screaming from our beautiful room. If you're looking for somewhere in Edinburgh to stay for a special occasion and fancy splurging a little then this is the place to do it, my Mum and I still reminisce fondly on it weekly.

Thank you to The Principal for a wonderful stay
