New year, new Spanish-speaking me

Hallo friends! A Merry Crimmas and a Happy New Year!! I hope ye all had a wonderful time. I ate more cheese than man has ever eaten before - I'm talking nightly cheeseboards - and at the time was like, 'this is wonderful! Why don't I do this more often' and then put on a stone in a week and realised why I don't do it more often. So this week has mainly been about weaning myself off the Wensleydale which, I won't lie, has been difficult.

What else have I done this week.. I've written my resolutions down. I don't think they necessarily need to be done at New Year but I do think it's nice to sit down every now and again and refocus and see what you'd like to change up a little. I'd planned to write down one or two things and, one hour later, I was sitting there with pages and pages full. Most of them are just simple little changes - do half an hour of yoga in the morning, stop scrolling through social media so often - to help ye old noggin, because mentally I didn't have the soundest year last year, and others are the usual culprits... You know, 'learn a language!'. That old chestnut. I really do want to do it this year, though, so maybe now I've said it out loud to you I'll be shamed into doing it, lest I come back next January unable to say much more than 'bonjour'. I did toy with putting 'stop biting my nails' on there again, but it's been 23 years so what's another 1 (I started biting them when I was four years old because a girl in my primary school class that I thought was cool did it so, naturally, I followed. Good one, Amy).

Velvet suit | Leopard shirt is an oldie from Topshop, sadly

I started back at the gym after three weeks off which wasn't pretty, especially post cheese-gate. I also started running again after a couple of years away from it and the number of fellow runners out there at the moment is off the charts; we all have that similar 'new-year-new-me-new-year-new-me-new-yea-Iwanttodie' look in our eyes. What else... I cried my eyes out at Kenza's pregnancy video. Of all the bloggers I follow, I think she's the one I've followed for the longest (seven years and counting) so when I saw she was pregnant I did a genuine happy whelp as if I'd seen a friend's pregnancy announcement. And then when I learned the story behind her pregnancy and the trouble she had, it made the video all the more emotional. Plus it's that time of month anyway and I'm crying at nappies adverts so this was a real dehydrating moment.

In fact, speaking of crying lots, I finally watched the Theory of Everything and oh did I bawl. I know people throw the phrase 'I cried my eyes out' around a lot, but I'm talking crying so hard (solidly) for the first half an hour that we had to pause the film. Thank god I didn't see it in the cinema, people around me would have been inching away slowly as I drenched my popcorn. So that's one I'd definitely recommend watching if you haven't seen it already! I also re-watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - cried at that too didn't I - which I love, and a documentary called 'Twenty Feet from Stardom' which one of my amigos gave me for my birthday last year. It's all about the long term backing singers behind all of your favourite songs over the years and is so, so interesting.

Photos by Kirsty McLachlan

I saw my family, lots of them in fact, which was lovely as we all live quite spread out so times we're all together are few and far between, saw amigos, ate some more food, and next on the agenda is a huge huge clear out which I'm outrageously excited for. One of the many reasons I know I'm getting old. But, in all seriousness, I hate clutter and my flat's now got to the point where everything doesn't have its own set place and it's messing with me head.

So, the photos! This shoot was actually done last year, before Christmas, and - as you may have spotted - is focused around one of my favourite brands; the boho queens that are Free People. We wanted to do something ever so slightly more editorial-y in place of our usual street-style shots for once so headed up The Craggs in Edinburgh to take some snaps! It was so oddly mild for December, wasn't it? The weather overall's been very nice and if you think I was going to go a whole post without mentioning the great British weather then you're grossly mistaken.

And with that I'm off to do my taxes. I'd honestly rather go a run.
