The In-Ocean Villa of Dreams

Well, this is finally the last of my Maldives posts. What started off as one post has spiraled into 5 (or 6?) because it's so ridiculously beautiful out there that I took 4000 photos. What an animal, I know. Anyway, I think I might just have saved the best for last. What do you picture when you think of the Maldives... the villas with the infinity pools that lead right onto the sea? Yes? Me too. And - guess what - that's what today's post is all about! On our last night in the Maldives we were incredibly lucky and each got to stay in an in-ocean villa, which has always been a wee dream of mine. The actual villa itself was everything you could imagine and more; split across two floors, really bright and spacious, complete with free-standing bath and rooftop terrace.

The showers also have this cool little feature where you can lift the blinds to whatever height you like and have a perfect view of the ocean as you soap up. Then you step outside and have this beautiful infinity pool, over-water trampoline (really) and sala bed, where you can set up spa treatments if you really want to go all out.

Like I said, our natural habitat was pissing our pants laughing; I honestly couldn't have found a better wee group of weirdos to go with if I'd tried. Anyway, enough of the mushy stuff. Even more excitingly, the villas have direct access to the coral reefs, so all you need to do is skip down a set of stairs and you're there and ready to swim or scuba!

In the evening time we went out on a sunset dolphin-spotting cruise and, although we didn't see any this time round - I think they were off watching Love Island or something - we were lucky enough to see the most wonderful little sunset. Although, to be honest, it was the actual sea itself that stole the show. It was so, so calm that night that it looked almost like a painting or a bit of glass. Plus, there was a slight mistiness in the air which gave off a Pirates of the Caribbean vibe, so I was in my absolute element.

Another thing we squeezed in was a castaway dinner, which you absolutely need to do if you're ever visiting. You're taken to an uninhabited island, where a lovely chef and waiters are there ready with a beautifully set up table, surrounded by torches and palm leaves. The meal was delicious and very Maldivian - fresh seafood and meat with veg - and also very romantic. I was sitting there thinking, 'I don't care who it is; if someone proposes tonight, I'm saying yes.
